What We Do

As technology and instructional methods evolve, students expect to be more active participants in their own learning. TLT’s Interactive Development team consults with faculty and schools to scope, design, and develop custom interactive learning experiences to enhance curriculums in uniquely effective ways. TLT’s specialized design and development staff responds to these needs with a focus on games, simulations and applications, deployable across multiple platforms in both face-to-face and online learning environments. Additionally, the team is exploring the potential of emerging platforms including AR/VR and Mixed Reality Experiences.

Games for Learning

Student engagement can be influenced by games developed as teaching tools or study aids. Incorporating reward badges for meaningful learning achievements, scaffolding lesson content through leveling-up, and encouraging healthy competition between students are some ways in which gamification can support student learning.

Educational Simulations

Communicating concepts that are otherwise difficult to demonstrate or explain through 2D and 3D interactive simulations designed for desktop, web, and/or mobile environments.

Specialized Applications, AR/VR and Mixed Reality Experiences

Deeper immersion brings the potential to increase student engagement in learning materials, and explore material in an entirely new way. Currently we are developing approaches for building VR mobile applications with Google Cardboard (Google’s VR viewer).

Additional Services from Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT)

The instructional technologists in TLT consult with faculty to help them determine the best ways to integrate innovative pedagogy and state-of-the-art media into lessons and courses. Instructional technologists collaborate with schools, departments, and individual faculty members to design lessons or courses for online, blended, or face-to-face learning. Services include:

  • Technology-enhanced course, curriculum, and program development and its associated responsibilities (instructional design, instructional technology, project management, production management, implementation, support)
  • Faculty training and development
  • Multi-platform development services using the Unity 3D engine (customized interactive/game/simulation design)
