The Environmental Simulation was an early tech demo to demonstrate Unity 3D’s capabilities for environmental immersion and world building. It was developed using freely available city models from the Unity 3D assets, and applies a range of visual effects to create atmosphere. It also became a test case for early Oculus VR experimentation.

Originally I was attempting to create a browser-based simulation, which revealed a number of challenges. The main discovery was that browsers have trouble knowing what to do with a mouse cursor in a first-person 3D environment. Not to mention, file size for environments can be massive for web deployment.
